Everything About Beautiful Kyrenia

Kyrenia District is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is Kyrenia (Turkish: Girne).

Kyrenia district is bordered on the south by Nicosia district and on the east and south-east by Famagusta district. It is most famous for its tranquil harbor with dozens of boats. The Kyrenia Mountains, with the prominent castles of St. Hilarion and Buffavento and the vivid green color, spread across the territory until it meets the vast blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

Kyrenia

Kyrenia, is a city on the northern coast of Cyprus with its miles of natural beaches, calm sea and mild climate. This city is bounded to the north by the sea and to the south by the mountain range. Kyrenia (Girne) has been host to a huge variety of civilizations over more than two thousand years.

Spectacular attractions of the city:

The most atmospheric place to dine in Kyrenia is the Old Harbour that is is known as the “Jewel of the Mediterranean”. it is full of yachts and fishing boats, shops, markets and local cafés, narrow cobbled alleys and an peaceful atmosphere. Although many of the restaurants depend on their setting rather than their menus to get you in the door, there are a couple of gems among the more mundane places. There are also some excellent restaurants in Kyrenia’s old Turkish Quarter.

Kyrenia Castle

Kyrenia Castle is located in Kyrenia Harbour. The castle, which dates back to the 16th century, was built by the Venetians. Inside the walls of the castle is a 12th century church. The interior of the castle includes a guard room, a prison, a courtyard and a royal ward in the west. In this royal part, large windows with small arches are well visible. At the bottom of the castle are dungeons and a food storage room. You will also find a small souvenir shop at the north end of the courtyard. There is a tomb, in the left of the castle entrance, which belongs to Siddiq Pasha, who conquered Kyrenia in 1570.

St. Hilarion Castle

St. Hilarion Castle is very beautiful, but climbing hundreds of stone steps to reach this castle is difficult. Of course, when you reach this castle, you forget all your tiredness. The view of Kyrenia from this height is very beautiful and spectacular. There are exhibitions, cafes and small shops near the castle for you to enjoy.

 

Çatalköy

Çatalköy is a busy large town with a bustling centre, it is a touristic neighborhood in North Cyprus that is only 10 minutes away from the beautiful port and castle of Kyrenia. The neighborhood stretches from the mountains to the beach and has a beautiful and eye-catching view.

Catalkoy is famous for having attractions such as Bellapais Abbey, Buffavento castle, stylish and first-class hotels and villas, and spectacular shops and restaurants.

 

Esentepe

Esentepe is a neighborhood located in the east of Kyrenia (Jewel of Cyprus). Esentepe is rapidly growing since a lot of foreigners are buying vacation property in this beautiful coastal area

Esentepe has become a dreamy tourist destination for the visitors who have fallen in love with the Stunning view over the mountain range to one side, and the Mediterranean the other side. With the fabulous sunsets, it is also known as little piece of paradise.

Lapta

Lapta is a town in west of Kyrenia, North Cyprus which is one of the oldest civilized areas in North Cyprus. It is home to many excellent hotels and holiday villages. You will find everything you need for a stay in Lapta, including taverns, restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets and banks. The town has one of the most beautiful coasts, and is an important tourism region in North Cyprus. Nearly 22.000 tourists come to the region every year.

Alagadi

The most famous golden sandy beach near Kyrenia is Alagadi Turtle Sandy Beach.

Alagadi Beach is home to turtle nests. There are no sports and leisure facilities on this beach and it’s the cleanest beach in North Cyprus.

This neighborhood allows peaceful and relaxing time by the pool but if you are looking for sightseeing, shopping in the heart of Kyrenia, exploring new locations in Karpaz or Famagusta, it will be close by.

 

Karşıyaka

Karşıyaka is a village in Kyrenia District of Cyprus and its spread out along the Mediterranean coast and the foothills of Lapta Mountain range.

Karşıyaka is full of lemon and olive groves.
